Jesse Earl Gates left his earthly home and went on to heaven on September 26, 2024.
He leaves a legacy of love of God, compassion for people and a sense of community.
He was born on September 4, 1946, in Carthage, Texas to Jessie B. Gates (his mother)
and Herman Gates (his father). He was better known as “Bobby” Gates. He attended
Turner School and graduated with the class of 1965. He and Janquiet Fields met and
married on August 25,1969. He went on to work at Eastman Kodak Company from 1973
until he retired in 1999; for a total 26 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Herman Gates and his brothers:
John H. Gates and Robert Gates. Survivors include his brother, David Lee Gates (Ira
Faye Gates), who resides in Henderson, Texas. He was the devoted father of Jan
Larkins (Eric Larkins, Sr), Jamie Gates and Jason Gates who dearly miss him and all
the life lessons he taught them. He is the proud grandfather of one grandson, three
granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. He also has a host of nieces, nephews and
other family members who will dearly miss him.
He was a lover of cars, guns, and the community. He genuinely loved all the children in
the family. You could find him Barbequing, cooking hot water cornbread, and eating fried
catfish. He was a follower of Christ who did not shy away from telling others about what
the Lord has done for him. He will be remembered by countless family members,
friends, co-workers, and the community.
